Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th, 2000) is an American performer and actress who worked for more than 40 years. London was a torch-singing singer famous for her soft, soothing vocals and smooth contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River", a song she introduced on her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's career as an actor of 35 years began with film in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in several westerns. In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. She released her final album of studio recordings in 1969 but continued to have success as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she co-starred with husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
